Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy for natural health

natural health/aromatherapyHi Everyone,

With winter in full swing, I wanted to take a moment to talk about Aromatherapy and how it can be helpful at this time of year.

Aromatherapy has been around since ancient times as a natural healing tool.  We have documentation of the use of Aromatherapy dating back to 1200 BC with Asclepius a physician at the time.  Even Hippocrites (circa 400 BC) promoted using aromatic baths and oils.  There is also a long line of Greek, Egyptian and Roman healers and physicians who used aromatherapy and aromatic plants for healing.  French doctors even used aromatherapy oils to treat wounds and heal gangrene in the second world war.

Aromatherapy works first through our olfactory system (nose/smell) since this is the first trigger to the brain and can elicit healing quicker.  But essential oils (of which aromatherapy is based on) also works to heal on the spot.

There are several very good oils to use to help you stay well in the winter, for example, tea tree oil and ginger have very good anti-viral properties, and ginger works well to keep you warm.  Lavender is a great all around healing oil that works great on burns, scars and for stress relief.
